Our aim was to develop a “high-end reference speaker”. A loudspeaker that adds nothing, no coloration and cabinet
resonances, able to generate a realistic sound to which you can listen continuously. To meet these requirements we searched
for the optimal cabinet, the best speaker drivers with a lively and natural sound and the best electronic components
to amplify the sound and blend the three drivers into a coherent sound field

the optimal cabinet

The system is a full dipole and delivers a tremendously open and natural reproduction of sound. The full dipole property of this loudspeaker is achieved by use of an open baffle without an acoustic box. The key aspect of open baffle systems is about the use of the so-called back wave, the sound that is being radiated backwards by the dynamic speaker drivers. The back wave is not damped, it is not enclosed by a box and as a consequence will not be able to bounce against the cabinet panels and re-radiate through the thin driver cone while being distorted and slowed down. Because the back wave is completely let free, the driver cone can move without any brake and the typical box sound is simply not there. There are no forces being put on the cone other than the action/reaction forces from the own back and forth movement of the speaker driver.
The open baffle principle requires special woofers, midranges and tweeters, if we want to guarantee dipole behavior across the entire frequency range for the most beautiful reproduction. See below the description of the various units. For really good dipole behavior it is also necessary that all units, woofers, midrange and tweeter are mounted on the smallest possible baffle.  For the tweeter we even went so far that we have hung up it free.
Besides the fact that open baffle speakers have no box sound, they also give a greater signal to noise ratio than normal speakers. This is especially true for low frequencies. The ratio of direct and reflected sound power is enhanced in the listening area by a factor of 3. Bass lines are therefore always easy to follow without excess ringing.
With careful monitoring of all the principles needed to make an almost ideal dipole speaker we have managed to set a reference that is also of friendly dimensions.
From the technical requirements of the open baffle concept we went to work with interior designers to make the appearance of the speaker appealing and innovative. With this we have created a contemporary design concept being valued by both men and women and easy to adapt to individual needs.

cabinet

dipole W-frame

The dipole W-frame is made of MDF or plywood. The frames are manufactured very accurate on a CNC milling machine. The cabinet connections are with dowels, 45 degree beveled and fully bonded, creating an exactly appropriate frame with minimal glue seams. For the design the corners of the cabinet are rounded. The W-frame has minimal resonances and optimal output. This creates a deep clean dipole bass.
The mid-woofer has a small baffle that is optimally dimensioned for the reproduction of the midrange frequencies.
The tweeter floats entirely free for the best possible spatial reproduction of the treble.
This is an optimal cabinet, both in terms of design and in terms of reproduction.

For the treble we use a beautiful dipole air motion tweeter, in our opinion the reference for the reproduction of high frequencies. This unit has recently been redesigned and features a new lightweight membrane. Because of this, the unit has a very nice dispersion and imaging and, even more importantly, a wonderful natural sound with magnificent dynamics. All high frequencies and details are therefore effortlessly to follow.

We knew this super fast and excellent controlled mid-woofer sounded great, so we asked the designers to develop a special version for our dipole speaker. This unit is fast and precise and the membrane has no nasty breakup phenomena which among others guarantees a very pleasant and very natural reproduction. You will discover the biggest advantage of this unit until after a longer listening period, because you are not listening to the unit but to the music. Nothing irritates and you want to keep listening and listening. We believe that to be the biggest compliment for a unit

A dipole woofer has a particularly hard job. Its  control capacity is therefore very important. A long linear stroke is required to put down the correct pressure and emotion. This newly developed unit is very fast and has a huge magnet so it can be very well controlled and has a lovely light and very rigid aluminum cone. In the Daudio W1 we put two woofers symmetrically and opposite each other. With this we create maximum performance with minimum vibration and distortion. In addition, they are not prominent in the design.

optimal crossover

With the crossover the correct blending of the units is obtained. After extensive measurements and listening tests, based on years of experience, we came for the Daudio W-1 to a combination of an active filter for the low/mid transition and a passive filter for the mid/high transition. This hybrid active/passive approach makes it possible to drive the mid/high combination with your own favorite amplifier. The transitions are so chosen that the units let you hear optimally what they are capable of, without adding something to the sound. Both filters are constructed of high quality components and can be  matched to your listening room.

separate amplifiers

Because the reproduction of low and mid/high frequencies puts different demands on an amplifier and influence each other, it is advisable to apply separate amplifiers. This is often referred to as bi-amping . We have therefore compiled a bi-amping amplifier for the Daudio loudspeaker to obtain extreme performance. The active filter is built into this amplifier. We call this amplifier the Daudio ASP/AMP. An identical pair of ASP/AMPs is provided with the loudspeaker set, one for each stereo channel, a better channel separation is not possible. So with the Daudio loudspeaker system you have no need for extra power amplifiers, it suffices to connect a source with volume control!
The ASP/AMP also includes a line output for the mid/high frequencies, which makes it possible to use your own favorite amplifier for this part of the reproduction. This is not really needed, as the Daudio amplifiers are already top class. However, we also have an eye for the lovers of class A and tube amps that want to apply these types of amplifiers for the mids and highs while still using the Daudio amplifiers for the active bass.

dac & volume 

from digital to analog

In this timeframe we use almost exclusively digital sources. Whether it is a CD, TV or network streamer, they all offer a digital signal. The correct conversion of the digital signal to the analog signal is essential for the achievement of an optimal sound. A good DAC ensures that the analog output indeed sounds “analog”, calm, spacious and with excellent imaging. Daudio has composed a DAC with volume control and source selection that can be entirely operated with its remote control.
The digital trend does not mean that we have forgotten the lovers of analog sources. There is a resurgence today of playing the L.P. instead of digital sources. Therefore our DAC with volume control contains two fully transparent analog inputs where no single form of signal processing is applied to.
